On November 14, the Killarney Community Centre Senior's Association got together to embellish the panels of the larger 8' x 4' ft planter boxes. Two dozen seniors used river stones to make their marks!
All of the containers have been planted! The planters have a variety of veggies and even some flowers. To name a few: radishes, strawberries, bush beans, acorn squash, carrots, zucchini and more! I crunched a radish today and it was juicy and delicious! The kids are super excited about seeing where food comes from and nurturing its growth! We are having our Garden Grand Opening celebration on Wednesday, May 30 from 10:00-11:30am. We hope you can come!
The kids enrolled in our licensed Out-Of-School care program also got involved in the process of embellishing the planter box panels. the younger ones used the salt-dough method, while the others used the wood burning tool. Here are a few works in progress.
We got the planters all filled with soil just in time for our first planting party. The preschoolers got a crash course on planting and the school-aged kids finished it off! Gray from Fresh Roots added the finishing touches by getting the irrigation rigged-up.
