All of the containers have been planted! The planters have a variety of veggies and even some flowers. To name a few: radishes, strawberries, bush beans, acorn squash, carrots, zucchini and more! I crunched a radish today and it was juicy and delicious! The kids are super excited about seeing where food comes from and nurturing its growth! We are having our Garden Grand Opening celebration on Wednesday, May 30 from 10:00-11:30am. We hope you can come!
We gathered for our final session on Permaculture and explored the topic of Food As Medecine and Superfoods. There was a lot to cover! Thanks to Gabriel Pliska of Frisch Farms and VACS for leading the session. Some superfood highlights included: Yarrow Kale Swiss Chard Lemonbalm Lupine Calendula Lovage Chamomile Echanacea Garlic
The kids enrolled in our licensed Out-Of-School care program also got involved in the process of embellishing the planter box panels. the younger ones used the salt-dough method, while the others used the wood burning tool. Here are a few works in progress.
